~Recap~
Ichigo wasn’t in it last time. Nami ate some curry and Grimmjow keeps making her fall. Grimmjow tried to take her gloves off and she tried to put up a fight, Gin came in though and stopped him for a moment. Start with Nami.
~Story Start~
When I woke up, I was on Grimmjow’s bed again, curled up next to him. I sighed, sitting up and glancing at him. He looked like a little kid as he slept, all that anger wiped away and a tiny smile on his lips. I shook my head as I tried to get off the bed, his fingers brushing my hand as I did. I turned the light off that I’d turned on last night before jumping up onto the windowsill, noticing that I was still wearing the same thing I had been yesterday. I pulled at my hair, pursing my lips as I felt the greasiness of it. I would ask him where the bathroom was so I could take a shower. I think I fell asleep again while I sat there, watching the clouds float in the sky, all fluffy and white. I don’t remember, all I remember really was falling down again and waking up on the floor, Grimmjow leaning over me with an irritated expression on his face.
“Did I wake you?” I asked, sitting up and rubbing the back of my head.
“Yeah, when you hit the floor you did. What the hell were you thinking? You were too tired to be up there,” He growled at me, picking me up in his arms and setting me down on his bed again.
“There you go again, acting like you care.” I mutter, sitting up and leaning against his shoulder gently as I felt my eyes closing again. “Every time you do that I think you might actually care.”
Grimmjow just grunted and sighed as I nodded off again. He poked me a couple times before clearing his throat, “I have a question.”
“Curiosity killed the cat,” I murmured, lifting my head and blinking at him, waiting for his question as he glared at me. I chuckled groggily before asking, “What do you need?”
“Why don’t you want me to take the gloves off?” He asked, frowning curiously.
I flinched away from him, leaning against the wall instead and looking away from him. “Oh… that.” I sighed before continuing, “I can’t control myself. The higher my reiatsu goes, the more bloodlust I have. I just want to kill over and over, nonstop.” I listened just in case someone was coming and when I didn’t hear anyone outside of the door, I went on, “My zanpakuto is different from most Soul Reaper’s. I have two shikai forms. The first one is the harp that heals. The second one is a flute. It can slice my opponent up with sound waves that are damn near impossible to dodge. I have to take the patch and one glove off though so I can go fast enough to even slice up my opponent.”
Grimmjow remained silent and I didn’t wait for an answer before I looked up at him, “I need to take a shower. Where’s the bathroom?”
He frowned at me before getting off the bed and heading for the door, waiting for me to grab my clothes, and led me to the bathroom. He walked inside with me, tapping his foot impatiently as I stood in front of him, waiting for him to get out.
“Well? Are you gonna get in or what?” He grumbled.
“Not with you in here,” I raised my eyebrows at him expectantly, pointing to the door. “I wouldn’t put it past you to look at me while I’m in there.”
“Oh really?” He glared at me. “And what am I supposed to do while you’re in here?”
“Find some way to entertain yourself,” I suggested, pushing him out of the door easily and shutting it before he could come back in. I knew he could break the door down without a problem and I was hoping he wouldn’t.
I undressed quickly, heating the water up before climbing in and standing beneath the water, letting it roll down my body and wet my hair. After a minute or two, I shampooed and conditioned my hair, repeating it before washing my body. I rinsed off and turned the water off, wringing my hair out and grabbing a towel to dry myself off. When I climbed out, I wrapped the towel around me and sighed. The door slid open and I yelped, leaping backwards against the wall as Grimmjow came in, staring at the floor and closing the door.
“Are you done… yet?” He had looked up at me and blushed a deep red, looking away again and staring at anything but me. I felt my heart beat pick up and my cheeks blaze as I gripped the towel, feeling it slip off me.
“C-can you g-get out?” I stumbled over my words waiting for him to leave. When his eyes wandered up to my hands, he frowned.
“Your gloves are off.” He glanced at the black gloves lying on top of my clothes.
“Of course,” I bit my lip hard. “I use extra patches when I take a shower. Now please get out.” When he didn’t move, I yelled, “Grimmjow! Get out!”
He gave me bewildered look, taking a step forward before shaking his head and backing out of the room again. After he had left, I grabbed my gloves and shoved them on my hands, dropping the towel on the floor and putting my clothes on again. I slid the door open when I was finished, finding Grimmjow sitting next to it, his blush not completely dissolved. I kicked him hard, surprising him.
“Get the fuck up,” I murmured, taking off down the hall towards his room again, the pissed off Grimmjow right behind me. I could practically feel the anger sparking in the air.
“Come back here, damnit!” He yelled after me, his voice making a metallic sound ring in my ears as I ran faster down the hallway, my footsteps echoing around the halls. I glanced back once to find him close behind me, not even at his full speed, as I finally came to a stop. When he caught me, I turned me around and grabbed my shoulders. “Why the fuck did you kick me?”
“Because I could,” I gasped as I tried to catch my breath. “That a problem?”
“Yes that’s a fucking problem! You don’t just fucking kick people for no damn reason!” He spat, his grip tightening then loosening again.
“Maybe you don’t,” I pouted a bit. “But, I’m not you.”
“Smart-ass,” He hissed as he threw me over his shoulder and carried me into his room. He dumped me on the couch, sitting down on the floor in front of me, the corner of his lips twitched up in a smile.
“I have a question,” I murmured, continuing after her grunted. “Why didn’t you knock?”
He looked at me with irritation. “Does it fucking matter?”
I nodded slowly and he sighed, “Because I didn’t want to.”
“Mm…” I sighed, crossing my arms over my chest. Before I knew it, he’d pulled me into his lap again, setting his chin on the top of my head. I felt my eyes grow soft as he held me there, his thumb eventually stroking my arm and shoulder. I nuzzled his neck after a while, trying to get comfortable and he smiled a little. We didn’t even hear the door open, didn’t even realize that we were being watched until the person in the doorway spoke.
“So, this is why no one sees you around anymore, Grimmjow.” The girl’s cold statement made the two of us jump, turning our heads to stare at the girl in the door.
“Yeah, for the most part,” Grimmjow sounded laidback instead of his usual angry self. “I’ve been assigned to watch her.”
“And that requires holding her in your lap?” She sounded skeptical, her face a frown behind the collar of her shirt. Now that I could see her completely, I saw that she had some huge boobs and that her hair was more of a yellow than the typical blonde.
“No, Tia that doesn’t require me holding her here,” Grimmjow’s voice was a little harsh now. “What is it that you want?”
“You’ve got a mission to find an orange haired human,” Tia growled back. “She’s to stay here with Lillynette and Starrk.”
Grimmjow tightened his grip on me but let me go gently, setting me down beside him. He stood up and as he did, I grabbed onto his shirt sleeve, “Be careful, okay?”
He gave me a cocky smile and laughed a little, “And why do you care?”
I smiled, “I don’t suppose I do.”
“I’ll be back soon,” Grimmjow nodded at me, walking out and leaving me and Tia alone.
After a moment, I stood up only to fall back down from the numbness in my legs. Tia grabbed my arm and draped it across her shoulders, pulling me down the hall. She sighed, “Do you care for him?”
“A little,” I murmur. “He’s really the only one I’ve been around. And you’re the only second person I’ve talked to, really.”
“Hm, so he’s keeping you locked up then.” Tia stated. “That’s a bit selfish of him.”
“Not really, I’ve only been here for maybe eight or nine days. I’ve been locked up in my own room for a week of that.” I shrugged, getting the feeling back in my legs. “I can walk now, thanks.”
“My name is Tia Harribel,” She murmured, setting me back down.
“Nami Ukitake,” I smiled a little. “Who are Starrk and Lillynette?”
“The Primero espadas,” She replied. “Why is it that Lord Aizen finds you so interesting?”
I shrugged, “He says that he’s going to turn me into a weapon of mass destruction. Well, that’s not technically what he said but he wants to make me into a weapon.”
“Naturally,” Tia sighed, shaking her head as we stopped in front of a door. “He told us that you were a tool for healing but it is natural that someone with such high reiatsu to be used as his weapon. I hope that he does not harm you in any way. Grimmjow and I would not be happy about that.”
“Why not you??” I asked, glancing up at her, just now noticing how much taller then me she was. “We just met, it’s not like you would care much for me.”
Tia chuckled, “Well, I don’t know you well but I already like you. Not to mention you bring the good out of Grimmjow.”
I smiled, glancing at the door as it opened, surprised to find a girl with green hair opened the door. She was about my height with a hollow mask fragment that she wore like a helmet, one part covering her left eye and one of the horns cut off. (Horrible at describing her) She blinked her one purple eye at me and then looked up at Tia, “Who the hell is she?”
“The soul reaper,” Tia narrowed her eyes at the young girl. “She’s a good person, Lillynette so don’t treat her like shit.”
“Tell that to Yammy and Ulquiarro.” She protested, pouting a little, “I don’t find anything wrong with her at first glance other then she stole my shirt. Her hair is pretty though, and her eyes.”
I smiled gratefully at her, and glanced up at Tia as she closed her eyes. “Just take good care of her, Grimmjow won’t forgive you if she gets hurt.”
“So that’s where he’s been? That stupid boy,” Lillynette smiled a little. “Well, come on in, Soul Reaper, make yourself at home.”
Tia walked off as I entered the room, catching sight of a sleeping man with long brown hair and a goatee.
“So, what’s your name, Soul Reaper?” Lillynette asked, attempting to be polite.
“Nami Ukitake,” I chuckled. “And yours?”
“Lillynette Gingerback,” She said as her eyes wandered over to the sleeping man. “That lazy ass is Coyote Starrk.” She got up and leapt on him, sticking her fingers in his mouth and gagging him.
He sat up, choking and holding his throat as her fingers left his mouth. He glared at her angrily, grabbing her in a headlock and driving his fist into the top of her head. She cried out, pushing away from him and pointing over me.
“We have a guest,” She squealed and Starrk looked up at me, surprise flickering in his eyes before they were back to their bored expression. Letting go of Lillynette, he nodded at me and motioned for the couch. “Make yourself at home, Ms. Ukitake.”
“How do you know her name and I didn’t?” Lillynette demanded, frowning at her partner. “Did Aizen tell you?”
“No, I thought I heard talking earlier, and I was right,” He muttered, laying his back on the pillows that lay beneath him. He let her straddle him for a while longer, falling asleep again. Eventually, I sat down on the couch and watched Lillynette fall asleep on him too. I just sighed and closed my eyes, not sleeping, and waited for Grimmjow to come back.
~Sometime Later~
The door was thrown open and I jumped as someone came in, anger flowing through out them. I backed away, eyes wide and fear vibrating from my body as they edged towards me.
“What do you want?” I squeaked, waiting for the pain of something hitting me as they reached out for me with one hand.
“Just shut up and come on,” Grimmjow spat at me, grabbing my arm and dragging me out of the room, Lillynette racing to the door and watching as he drug me across the floor to his room again.
“Grimmjow, you’re hurting me,” I gasped as his grip tightened around my arm, bruising it. I struggled to get loose as I felt the bones begin to crack. “Grimmjow, let go you’re breaking it!”
The blue haired man dropped me as we entered his room again, allowing me to cradle my arm while he slammed things around. The light that I had used to brighten the room when it had gotten dark was smashed as he smacked it onto the floor with the same arm he’d used to drag me.
I pulled my zanpakuto out with my good arm and whispered, “Sing, Angel.” The harp appeared in my hand and I quickly started playing it, beginning to sing along with the notes to try and calm him down and heal my fractured bones. As his breathing slowed, he turned to me and glared down at me.
“Did I do something?” I whispered when his gaze fell upon me. “Is that why you’re mad?”
Grimmjow closed his eyes for a moment, trying to get control of his anger but not succeeding. “No, Nami, it wasn’t your fault. That damn soul reaper boy cut my arm off. And now…,” He raised his voice so he was yelling. “I’m not even the fucking sexta espada anymore!”
My eyes traveled from his face down to his missing arm. I gasped, dropping my harp on the ground as I stood up and moved closer to him. He backed away from me immediately, an involuntary thing, and put his hand up to hold me back. He shook his head and pushed me back towards the couch.
“Don’t mess with it,” He hissed. “Just don’t touch it.”
I scoffed, “I told you the same thing about my gloves and what did you do? You touched them. Now let me see it.”
He growled as I got up, his hand grabbing my shoulder and shoving me back again. Though, this time, I shunpoed to stand beside him, glaring up at him defiantly. He swiped at me with his hand, barely missing me as I ducked down and yanked his legs out from under him. He fell backwards and hit the floor hard, not even getting the chance to recover as I straddled him, pushing the one arm he had left down beneath my leg. I pinned his shoulders down with my own hands and glared at him, a challenge for him to even try to move.
“Now sit still,” I hissed at him, bending down so that I could get a closer look at his arm. I cringed away from it though, squeezing my eyes shut. “Who did you say did this?”
“Ichigo Kurosaki,” Grimmjow muttered.
“The substitute soul reaper,” I growled, clenching my hands into fists as I remembered the ginger haired boy that nearly got him and his friends killed trying to save Rukia Kuchiki.
“Substitute?”
“Yeah, he replaced one of my friends when she couldn’t kill a hollow. He was trying to save his family when he took all her power.” I muttered, shaking my head and put one of my hands on my face, covering my right eye. “She was sentenced to death but the Head-Captain called it off after Aizen and Gin and Kaname left the Soul Society.”
“Hm…” He grunted, sliding his arm out from beneath my knee. “Well, he’s the one who did it.”
“What did you try to do?” I asked quietly as he left me sitting on top of him.
“Ulquiarro, Yammy, and I tried to capture the ginger haired human. She can heal, according to Aizen.” He murmured, staring up at the ceiling, his angry face set in place.
“Orihime Inoue,” I muttered, “Another special human, just like that Uryu Ishida and Chad… what’s his face.”
“That Ichigo guy cut off Yammy’s arm too, but he’s still the Cero espada.” He growled angrily, “Tosen burned my arm so I can’t reattach for shit.”
I hissed, surprising Grimmjow as I punched the floor beside his head. I had always hated Captain Tosen, no matter how much respect he gave me or any other person. He always pissed me off no matter what, and now, after hearing what he’d done to Grimmjow’s arm, I hated him. Truthfully, I had no reason to hate him, I just did.
“What’s wrong with you?” Grimmjow asked, sitting up and pulling his knees up so that I could lean back on them.
I sighed and shook my head, “I don’t know. Tosen just pisses me off.”
Grimmjow chuckled, setting his forehead against mine, his angry face still on. He leaned back again, just far enough that we weren’t right in each other’s faces, and sighed. “He pisses me off too.”
“Naturally,” I scoffed, tracing what little of the hollow hole I wasn’t sitting on I could. “I don’t have any reason to hate him though.”
“You’ve known me for two days and you’ve already gained the hatred I feel towards many of the people here. Tia, she’s a good person though. She may be a little bitchy sometimes, but she’s okay.” Grimmjow murmured, “Hey, you know any sayings for anger or hatred?”
“Yes, why do you ask?” I asked, frowning a little.
“I just wanna hear some,” He raised his eyebrows with a bored look on his face now.
I smiled and glanced up at the ceiling thoughtfully, “Umm… Anger is short-lived madness. Or for every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.” I paused to think about hatred for a moment, glancing down at him with an uncertain look on my face as I continued, “Love may be blind, but I’ll state this—its eagle-eyed compared to hate. Um… Hatreds are the cinders of affection. Hate is misguided love… I can go on, if you want me to.” I murmured, staring down into his eyes.
“What do you have on love?”
I blinked; love wasn’t nearly as tough as hate. “Hate leaves ugly scars, love leaves beautiful ones. Take love away and our earth is a tomb. Love is an irresistible desire to be irresistibly desired. You know you’re in love when you don’t want to fall asleep because reality is finally better then dreams.”
“How do you know all those?” He asked, leaning up again, giving me a little frown.
“I’ve had 400 years to learn them all.”
“You’re old,” He chuckled, nuzzling my cheek.
“Oh really?” I asked softly, “Well, age is an issue of mind of over matter, if you don’t mind it doesn’t matter. Besides, I’m sure you’re much older then me.”
“Nah,” He breathed. “I’m a bit younger I suppose.”
“You don’t really know do you?” I pulled my head back so I could look at his face. “I know, roughly, my exact age.”
“And what’s that?” He raised an eyebrow, his eyes smoldering.
“Mm, about 420,” I murmured, resting my forehead on his and staring down at my hands as I fiddled with my fingers.
Grimmjow smiled, not answering while he closed his eyes. Biting my lip for a moment, I moved a bit so that I could kiss him gently. I took him by surprise and when I pulled back, his eyes were wide open and filled with amazement.
“What… the hell… was that?” He stumbled for words, looking at me with the same astonished eyes.
“A kiss, stupid,” I giggled, trying to stand up, stopping as he grabbed my wrist and pulled me back down. He smashed his lips against mine, holding the back of my neck so I couldn’t move back. After a while, I began to feel dizzy and pulled back, gasping for air. “Now, what the hell was THAT?”
“No idea,” He smirked, watching as my cheeks heated up. “I guess it was a kiss… dumbass.”
I rolled my eyes and stood up, actually walking away and jumping up onto the window sill. When I looked outside, I gasped, nearly falling back down to the ground as I realized how dark it was. “Shit!” I turned around, glancing around for a light. “Shit shit shit!”
Jumping back down, I reached out for the lamp and picked it up, ignoring the shards that dug deep into my skin as I flipped the switch on and off. I let out a distressed cry and leapt up, running to the door and opening it, only to find more darkness. My breathing and heart rate picked up as the darkness closed in around me. Finally, Grimmjow came up to me and wrapped his one arm around my waist, trying to calm me down.
“Don’t think about it, Nami, just get in the bed.” He whispered in my ear, guiding me to the bed as I squeezed my eyes shut, imagining a huge light inside my head. “Come on, just get in the bed.”
I jumped up onto it, him jumping up beside me, pulling me down under the covers as he turned me over to face his chest. He stroked me gently as I sobbed quietly, keeping me turned away from most of the darkness that covered us. After a while, I fell asleep, waking up several times to find myself blanketed by the dark still. All the while, Grimmjow hugged me to him protectively, breathing slowly in an attempt to calm me over and over again.
