~Recap~
Nami walked in on Gin… Um, Grimmjow got all pissed at her. Lillynette asked her if she wanted to become an arrancar and she said yes. Now Lillynette is going to ask Aizen about it. Yeah… I find these recap things pointless since I obviously don’t do very well writing them. Ichigo will be back in the next one. I did say maybe when I said she was going to be in it. So Nami will start out… again.
~Story Start/ Three Days Later~
I sighed, waiting for Grimmjow to wake up. It was one of those usual things except I wasn’t in the window this time. He was using me as a teddy bear and a pillow at the same time, laying his head on my chest. From the position, I just assumed that he wanted to lay on what little boob I have.
It had been three days since Lillynette asked me if I wanted to be an arrancar and I was positive that she had probably already asked Aizen about it. But, I hadn’t seen Gin or Kaname or Aizen since three days ago. I guess it meant they were working on the thing to change me into an arrancar. Part of me silently wished it wouldn’t work and the other a much louder and larger part of me was excited. What really had me worried was what Grimmjow was going to say when I told him.
I was going through quotes in my mind, contemplating on the meaning within the sentences on some of them, the ones that I hadn’t really thought about, and just repeating the ones I’d already thought about twice. I did that until I felt Grimmjow open his eyes and stare at me.
“Morning, Kitty,” I mumbled, turning my head to look down at him.
“Who the fuck is Kitty?” He asked, tilting his head to glare at me.
“My cat used to lie on my chest,” I chuckled. “You remind me of him.”
“Glad to know I seem like a cat,” He scoffed, sitting up.
“What were you lying there for anyways? Did you even realize you had?” I asked, sitting up too and yawning.
“I was listening to your heartbeat. I don’t have one so yours is a bit… unusual for me, I guess.”
“Oh? Was that it? I thought it was for the sake of lying on my boob.” I raised my eyebrows a little, sliding out of bed and sitting on the floor in front of the couch.
“What?! I’m not that damn perverted!” He yelled as a knock at the door came.
I rolled my eyes a little, expecting Lillynette or Tia as I opened the door. But, to my surprise, I found a new girl standing there… or was he a guy? I couldn’t tell but when I heard a growl from behind me, I knew Grimmjow didn’t like them.
“So, this is the little Soul Reaper everyone is talking about,” The he-she asked, poking at my arm and then poking at the bruise that was hiding beneath some bandages that wrapped around my whole torso. “No wonder Yammy was so angry yesterday, you really shouldn’t enrage him.”
“Um… who are you?” I took a step back, allowing him (I had finally decided that it was a he).
“Oh how rude of me,” He chuckled, sending a quick glance at Grimmjow, who was still sitting in the bed. “I am Luppi, the new sexta espada.” By his tone, it sounded like I was supposed to be impressed but I just rolled my eyes.
“If you think that’s something special, you’re wrong.” I growled, “I wasn’t even impressed when I heard Grimmjow was the sexta espada before and I’m not going to be impressed now.”
“What?! How can you not be impressed, I’ve clearly replaced that bastard over there!!?” Luppi yelled at me, grabbing me by the shoulders of my shirt.
Grimmjow was by side in no time, grabbing one of Luppi’s wrists and yanking it off of me, glaring down at him angrily. I gently put my hand on Grimmjow’s arm and I looked at Luppi calmly, “Get… off.”
He slowly removed his hand from my shirt and let out a fierce growl, “I’ll be glad when Lord Aizen kills you. It’ll take a lot of shit off my hands, I won’t have to deal with this asshole’s attitude whenever I’m near you.” He walked back to the door before turning once more, “Oh, right. Lord Aizen wishes to see you… alone.” He emphasized on the alone part, making me want to hit him, hard.
When he’d left, I let out a loud shriek, “That snotty little shit! I could pummel him right now for that!”
Grimmjow gave me a serious look full of doubt before trudging out of the door. I followed him quietly, leaving him outside as I entered Aizen’s throne room. I bowed a little, straightening up as soon as I felt Gin beside me, flinching away from his touch. He chuckled and returned to his seat on the left of Aizen, Tosen sitting on his right.
“You wanted to see me, Lord Aizen?” I murmured, staring up at him but not making eye contact.
“Otherwise you wouldn’t be here,” He smiled seductively and went on. “Lillynette tells me that you would like to become an arrancar.”
My eyes widened a little, “So she did tell you.”
“Yes, Ms. Ukitake she did.” He chuckled, “Just this morning.”
“Took her long enough,” I hissed under my breath before looking up at Aizen expectantly. “Is it even possible?”
“Probably… but that would mean you would have to die again.”
“I’ve never died, sir. I was born into the Soul Society.” I clenched my teeth, fear welling up inside of me. “How do you know I would even make it as a Gillian? Are you even sure that I could become an Adjuchas?”
“Take off your restrictions.” It wasn’t a statement, it was an order and when I didn’t move, Aizen tried to crush me with his reiatsu. I hadn’t even realized it until he frowned at me. “If you can stand up to that, I imagine you must have some immense reiatsu yourself. So, take the restrictions off.”
“I’m not wearing restrictions,” I lied, my voice shaking. “This is my level, the only level I’ve ever been at.”
“According to Yammy, that is a lie.” Gin grinned at me, “You broke his whole hand, remember?”
The breath caught in my throat as I realized what I’d done. Slowly, I made my fingers move to patch on my shoulder, ripping it off gently, before removing my gloves and the ring that I wore on my index finger of my right hand. The higher my reiatsu raised, the more bloodlust I felt pouring through me. I heard Angel yell with excitement as my hand slowly moved to the hilt, an automatic reaction.
“Gin,” Aizen murmured and, before I knew it, my zanpakuto was gone, out of my reach. She sat with Gin in his chair, the silver haired fox grinning and wiggling the blade a bit.
“Yeah,” I scoffed. “THAT will stop me.” I darted behind Gin, grabbing my zanpakuto away and dancing back to my original spot. He had a look of surprise on his face, barely catching my movements as I raced around. “I don’t just wear those things to keep my reiatsu down; I also wear them to keep my speed down. I’m sure, if I wanted to now, I could rip your arms off without a problem.”
The door opened behind me and I unsheathed Angel, pointing the blade at the person who walked in. It took me a moment to realize that it was Grimmjow, my grip faltering and the blade falling to the floor, clattering noisily.
“That’s good, you didn’t even hesitate,” Aizen murmured. “I expected you to wait to know who it was before you drew your blade. I suppose it doesn’t matter, at least I know you can draw your blade against a friend.”
I felt the hysterics come along now as I sheathed Angel again, grabbing the gloves and my ring from the ground, gently pushing Grimmjow aside and racing out of the room and down the hall. I didn’t hear anyone following me, which meant that I was too fast for all of them. When I stopped running, I found myself out on the roof again, glaring up at the bright sky. I stuffed my hands back in my gloves and jammed the ring on, collapsing on the ground before pulling a new patch from the top of my zanpakuto and sticking it on my arm.
I laid there on the ground for hours, holding back my hysterics still, until I finally heard footsteps. I turned my head to stare at Ulquiarro, his emotionless green eyes glaring down at me.
“Don’t tell me that you were the trash whose reiatsu crushed Yammy to the floor?” He asked, just as emotionless and superior as his face was.
I sat up slowly, closing my eyes gently, “Surprises lurk behind the most unexpected places.”
“I’m not surprised,” Ulquiarro denied as he stuck his hands in his pockets and began to walk away. “You are the weapon after all.”
“Don’t remind me,” I whispered, taking a glance up at the sky. As he disappeared, I murmured to myself, “I only wish to be free… the butterflies are free.”
“Ulquiarro said I could find you up here,” Grimmjow called behind me.
“I’ve been up here for hours,” I replied quietly, not even bothering to turn to look at him. I was too upset with myself for pulling my zanpakuto on him. “I was hoping no one would find me.”
“I didn’t even think about looking up here,” He sighed, sitting down beside me and staring out at the puffy white clouds. “What were you talking about with Aizen, by the way?”
“Becoming an arrancar,” I sighed, pulling my knees up to my chest. “Lillynette brought it up. I didn’t expect her to actually ask.”
“I sure hope he doesn’t have any plans to makes you an arrancar,” Grimmjow laughed a little. “You’d never be able to get rid of your bloodlust. Your attitude would be all fucked up too.”
“You’d rather me be a Soul Reaper?” I asked quietly.
“No,” He scoffed. “I’d rather you be human. I’d rather you never have been brought here. All he’s going to do is use you and once he’s finished with you, kill you off, just as he will do with the rest of us.”
I rolled my eyes at him but kept my gaze fixed on the sky, “I never thought the big bad kitty cat could be so sensitive.”
“I’m not sensitive!!” He exclaimed, denial flashing across his eyes. “And I’m not a damn cat, I’m a panther.”
“What’s the difference? Panthers are feline and are related to cats.”
“Cats are fucking tame!! Panthers are wild and strong,” He growled.
“Uh huh, sure,” I laughed. “You know, when I said my kitty laid on my chest, I was talking about my pet panther.”
“Why the hell do you have a pet panther?” He growled, “How did you even tame the beast?”
“I got him when I was a kid. So, he was tame from birth really. As he stays in the soul society, he doesn’t age… much. And I’m glad he doesn’t, he’s the best pet in the world. Much better then Ichigo’s pet dog,” I giggled, my fists clenching as my anger flared up. “I can’t imagine what Zyphron would do to me if I came back as an arrancar.”
“Ichigo Kurosaki?” He growled, surprising me a bit but I let out a laugh,
“No, no. Ichigo Ryu is like my sister and she’s an actual Soul Reaper. Not to mention, her name means Strawberry Dragon.”
“Oh… Do you think they’ll come looking for you?” Grimmjow asked out of the blue.
“I expect they will,” I sighed. “Ichigo is just as stubborn as the Substitute Soul Reaper. I’m sure they’re working on something to get here now. But, I doubt they’ll succeed anytime soon. Ichigo is Captain of the 3rd Division, Gin Ichimaru’s second replacement. She isn’t much of a Captain and she doesn’t get a long well with others, especially when she’s trying to read. Mayuri Kurotsuchi is the head of the research team and Captain of Division 12. He likes her, but I wouldn’t put it past the two of them to go all out and start killing each other.”
Grimmjow didn’t say anything for a while. When he did though, he sounded upset, “You really want to go home, don’t you?”
“A little, not as much as before though. I’ve got people at home that I miss a lot but I’ve got people here that I’m positive I’ll miss if I go back.” I shook my head, staring directly at the setting sun. “I’m sure by the end of the month I won’t want to go home.”
“And who exactly would you miss here?” Grimmjow sounded skeptical as he spoke and it made me giggle, a bubbly giggle.
“Tia and Lillynette, maybe Starrk,” I grinned over at him as he stared at me expectantly. Deciding to fuck with his head, I said, “Oh! And Yammy, of course.”
“What?! What about me?” He growled, his brow furrowing.
I laughed a bit more, reaching out and hugging him gently, “And you. I think you’re the one I would miss most, since I hardly ever get away from you.”
Grimmjow started purring a bit and I pulled away from him, “Panthers aren’t supposed to purr.”
“I guess I’ve been tamed,” He smiled that crooked smile of his.
“Now how the fuck is that possible? Panthers are wild and strong, untamable.” I teased.
“I have a good master.”
I scoffed, rolling my eyes, “If you’ve EVER owned a cat, you’d know that you can’t own it.”
“I’ve never owned a cat,” He murmured, a thoughtful look on his face. “So if you can’t own the cat, does that mean the cat owns you?”
“Naturally,” I chuckled, “Which means that cats, or other felines, cannot be tamed. The feline tames the human, in whatever situation.”
“You like cats don’t you?” He asked, continuing to purr.
“Love them,” I chuckled. “The only bad part is when they’re gone. If you’re used to the sound constant purring and suddenly it’s gone, it’s hard to silence the blaring noises of sadness.”
“I like that one,” He said. “It makes a lot of sense.”
“Yeah, if you ever get the chance to read up on Missy Altijd, she’s the one who said that.” I mumbled, barely taking the time to glance up at the sky. When I looked away, I did a double take, my heartbeat hammering as usual. “No! It can’t be that late, can it?”
Grimmjow hugged me tightly, “Don’t worry, I’m right here. I’m not going to leave your side until its light. I’m not going to drag you through the halls either so we’re just going to sleep here tonight.”
“Okay,” I whispered, laying down and forcing Grimmjow to as well, staring up at the stars fearfully before I caught sight of the moon. I smiled at it’s full glow, silently sending it a thanks as I closed my eyes and curled up against Grimmjow’s chest.
~Next Day~
I’d been awake for hours, wandering the halls and dragging Grimmjow along behind me. He wasn’t really enjoying himself but at that moment I could care less, I was just in an extremely good mood. I just hoped I wouldn’t run into anyone that didn’t particularly like me. We ran into Ulquiarro on his way to the library and when I asked him what he was going to do there he said read. I rolled my eyes and said obviously before continuing asking what he was going to read.
“Why does it matter, trash?” He murmured, staring down at me.
“I just want to know,” I pursed my lips. “I enjoy reading a lot; I just want to know what you read.”
Ulquiarro paused before looking away and saying coldly, “Science Fiction and Histories of Families.”
“Hm… you should really try the Romance novels. You may get a hint of what a ‘heart’ is like,” I suggested, racing down the hall again, pulling Grimmjow still.
“Why do you push him like that? You know he hates you,” I heard Grimmjow mutter.
“Of course he hates me,” I smiled back at him. “It’s just fun to mess with him. Oh!” I stopped suddenly and blinked, “I’m turning into Ichigo more and more everyday.”
“At this rate, I won’t need to meet her to know her,” Grimmjow grumbled.
“She’s a lot like you actually,” I said. “She just doesn’t have the urge to kill everything that pisses her off.”
“Now I really feel like I know her,” He muttered, halting to a stop and pulling me to the side of the hallway when Yammy came down the hall, sending daggers at me with his eyes. I smiled a bit and curtsied, surprising the large man as he rounded the corner. “Are you trying to get back on his good side?”
“Nope,” I grinned. “I could care less actually. I’m just really happy today.”
“Oh good, then you won’t mind coming along with me to see Lord Aizen, would you, Ms. Ukitake?” I heard Gin chuckle a few feet away. I turned to look at him, pausing before nodding, “Grimmjow, I don’t think you need to come with me this time, I’m sure I’ll be fine.”
“But—” He protested and I put my hand on his mouth, cutting him off with a shake of my head.
“I’ll see you later,” I mumbled, giving him a soft peck on the lips before following Gin.
~Grimmjow’s POV~
As I watched her walk away, I got a horrible sense of dread. What could Aizen want with her this time? When I felt Nami’s staggering reiatsu appear out of no where, I gasped, nearly being crushed by the weight of it.
“So, he’s going to change her then,” Tia stated, suddenly beside me. Her shoulders were tensed and I knew what was going on now. “If she doesn’t make it, I’m afraid I will need to kill him.”
“I’ll be at your side,” I growled as Tia helped me along the hallway, towards Aizen’s throne room. My fist was clenched angrily as I heard Nami gasp from inside, a thud echoing through the door. Her reiatsu automatically died down, a result of losing her life to the sword.
Tia and I burst through the doors, watching Nami’s blood flow across the floor. I kneeled down beside her and brushed the hair out of her eyes. She smiled gently at me, reaching up with a hand to touch my left cheek. She choked a bit as she spoke, “To the well-organized mind, death is just the next great adventure.”
“That doesn’t make any sense,” I hissed down at her putting my hand on the wound through her chest. “Stop bleeding, Nami, please.”
She opened her mouth to reply but only gurgled as blood filled her mouth, suffocating her as blood filled her lungs. She stopped trying to speak and smiled once more before glancing at Tia and closing her eyes, her stopping. It took her a moment for her heartbeat to stop too, sighing as she let out her last breath.
I whipped my head up to glare at Aizen and yelled, “Why did you do this?!”
“She drew her zanpakuto, what else was I going to do?” Aizen asked, frowning a little. “She was a bit harder to kill then I expected since her zanpakuto made her put up such a fight. She obviously wasn’t ready to die.”
“She seemed to accept it when she was talking to Grimmjow,” Kaname Tosen murmured, staring down at Nami’s lifeless body with his sightless eyes hidden behind his weird silver glasses.
“Only because Grimmjow was there,” Tia growled. “Had it not been for that I am certain she would have forced herself to live a little longer. I think it wise we lay her to rest now, as that is how Soul Reapers put their dead to rest, as do humans.”
“She’s not a human,” I spat fiercely. “And she is no longer a Soul Reaper; her death has made her a spirit, soon to be hollow. I just hope her zanpakuto did not die along side her and can still drive her bloodlust.”
“It was not her blades’ lust for blood that drove her to fight so fiercely, Grimmjow Jeagerjaques, it was her own. Although she may describe her bloodlust as her zanpakutos, her blade only encourages her to kill.” Aizen gave me a bored look, his brown eyes staring off in another direction. “She was not afraid or surprised though when my blade pierced her instead of Gin’s. She actually laughed before she fell.”
I motioned for Tia to pick Nami up before I stood up, glaring at Aizen, “If she doesn’t make it…”
“She will make it,” Aizen scoffed. “That I am certain of.”
“But if she doesn’t, I am afraid I will have to kill you,” I growled and turned on my heel, walking out with Tia and Nami. As I left, I heard Aizen sigh, “I do hope it doesn’t turn to that.”
~Burial~
I was surprised when Yammy showed up, Ulquiarro too. I didn’t expect them to even care to show up. Actually, most of the espada showed up, even the ones that Nami had never met before. Lillynette and Starrk were there, Lillynette clung onto Starrk, sobbing although she had no tears to cry. Starrk had his head bowed, Tia standing next to them with her eyes closed and holding Nami in her arms. The only espada that weren’t there were Zommari Leroux, Aaroniero Arruruerie, and Nnoitra Jiruga. I had dug a hole deep enough and long enough to fit her body, dug it by hand even though I could just fire a cero and make one. Lillynette and Tia had dressed Nami’s wound and put new clothes on her that weren’t stained with her blood. She wore her Soul Reaper outfit that she came to Hueco Mundo in but her sword was not being buried with her. The blade itself had gone missing, the sheath the only thing left of it.
Tia moved forward to place Nami inside of the hole, also dropping a cyclamen flower down inside as well. I motioned for Lillynette to come forward and watched as she dropped a bundle of pink heather into the ground, Starrk doing the same before both of them moved back and waited for me to drop my own flower in the hole. I sighed, edging forward and letting a bundle of amaryllis flowers, red in the center and white on the outside edges. Whispering so no one else heard me, I said down to her, “You better come back. I don’t want to have to wake up in a month to find you’re still dead.”
After it was over, I covered her with dirt again with the help of Lillynette and Tia, the three of us finding a rock for her headstone. It took me a while, but I scraped her name into the stone with my nails. I knew that if she came that this wasn’t necessary but… if she didn’t come back, it was better then doing nothing for her. Afterwards, we returned to our rooms. When I went in, I called out, “Wake up.” But stopped myself from saying anything else out of habit, causing myself to slam the door closed and collapsing on the couch, glancing up at the window and imagining Nami sitting on the window sill. I fell asleep staring up at the window, unaware that I was that exhausted.
~End~
Okie… that was a bit harder to do then I expected. I didn’t mean to take so long writing it, I was watching Annie. You know, the movie about the 10 year old orphan and her search for her parents. So I do hope you enjoyed it. I’mma get right on the next one.
